Yes, I am as tired as I look!
I survived an Owl attack…well, sort of.
Great night in Woodland for night ride on 102 towards Davis. This is a dark road at night, by dark I mean pitch black! Wore my helmet light, which is about a 10watt bulb, that effectively has 6ft wide stream and can clearly see 10ft+ in front of me. First of all, my helmet didn’t right from the start…am I losing my double chin, that has huanted me for the past several years? Not sure, but I neglected to adjust until later in the ride. This is important.
So about 10min. In to the ride I adjust my helmet up that holds my headlight, out of the top right corner of my eye about 10ft up and 6ft in front of me I see this huge belly and wingspan swooping towards me!!!! It quickly turns and flys across the street to the eletrical lines above. First thought was, Holy Frack! That was one big Owl!!! Second thought was, do they attack people?? Then, I said, nevermind I need this ride…I’m gonna keep going, which I did.
On my way back, I saw the Owl again, it came further down the road! Was this thing following me? Who knows, I just kept riding albeit a lot faster…which not much since I only have one gear.
So, I survived and when I got home I decided to do a quick google search for Owl attacks. Yes, I definitely found some right away! Needless to say, I’ll be more prepared and ride before dusk, so I can at least see it coming!!
